Chief Labour Inspector presented Grand Prix SAWO

The twentieth edition of International Fair of Labour Protection, Fire-Fighting and Rescue Equipment SAWO was held in Poznań between 26 and 29 April 2010. It was attended by over 200 exhibitors from 20 countries of Europe and Asia. They presented state of the art equipment, as well as technical and organizational solutions in the field of work safety. The fair offer was supplemented with a broad range of equipment and facilities for fire brigades and rescue services.

As usual, the National Labour Inspectorate’s presence was strongly marked at SAWO Fair. At its information stand, NLI presented a wide offer of publications, such as guides, brochures and leaflets on work safety and health. Visitors were particularly interested in guides on work-related stress. The whole print-run prepared for the event was already distributed on the second day of SAWO Fair.

Visitors could watch a multimedia presentation about winners of the nationwide competition “Employer – organizer of safe work”. In face-to-face conversations, persons visiting the labour inspectorate’s stand could receive legal and technical advice from labour inspectors. This opportunity was readily used by specialists from OSH services, employers and line managers.

SAWO Fair, held under the auspices of the Minister of Economy, the Minister of Labour and Social Policy, the Chief Labour Inspector and the Commandant-in-Chief of the State Fire Brigades, was visited by the head of National Labour Inspectorate Tadeusz Jan Zając. During an official opening of the Fair, along with Andrzej Byrt, President of the Board of International Poznań Fair, the Chief Labour Inspector presented GRAND PRIX SAWO in the category “personal protective equipment” for a reusable dust filter “BIO E 953 P3R”. The filter was produced by a consortium of: Filter Serwice Sp. z o.o. Zgierz and the Central Institute for Labour Protection-National Research Institute in Warsaw. Another presented award was GRAND PRIX SAWO in the category “other goods and solutions connected with the Fair’s subject” – for a photoluminescent warning outline manufactured by TOP DESIGN Chwaszczyno Chudzyński, Stupnicki Sp. j.

During the fairs, many accompanying events were held, such as: shows, seminars and conferences devoted to issues of work safety, fire prevention, fire fighting and rescue actions.

The labour inspectorate organized an international conference on “Occupational risk assessment – psychosocial factors. Good practices in EU countries”. Dr Mateusz Warchał of District Labour Inspectorate in Katowice presented a paper titled “Can stress be measured? Effects of the National Labour Inspectorate’s activities in the area of prevention of psychosocial hazards at work”. A representative of the Dutch Labour Inspectorate, Leo de Jong spoke about “Occupational risk assessment and counteracting negative effects of stress in the workplace – good practices in the Netherlands”.

National Labour Inspectorate’s representatives were actively involved in three other conferences. At the conference “Work accidents and social awareness”, organized by All-Poland Association of Employees of OSH Services, a paper “Employer’s duties following a work accident”, was presented by Krzysztof Stelmach, the head of accident section at the Chief Labour Inspectorate. The conference was attended by Senator Jan Rulewski.

The labour inspectorate was also active at another conference, organized by the Central Institute for Labour Protection-National Research Institute. Leszek Zając, Deputy Director of Supervision and Inspection Department spoke about “National Labour Inspectorate’s experience of inspecting safety of operation of machinery and equipment and relevant practical guidelines for entrepreneurs”.

“ATEST” monthly and All-Poland Association of Employees of OSH Services organized a conference “Good practice vs. work accidents”, during which Przemysław Jachalski, senior labour inspector at District Labour Inspectorate in Poznań delivered a paper on “NLI’s assessment of post-accident procedures and NLI’s analysis of accidents”.

All conferences with the speakers from National Labour Inspectorate attracted a lot of participants dealing with work safety and health protection in workplaces.

Another edition of SAWO Fair has been planned for April 2012.
