At its session held at Parliament on 9 June 2010, the Committee for State Supervision adopted its opinion for the Minister of Infrastructure and thus supported earlier proposals of the labour inspectorate about necessary amendments of provisions on working time of drivers.

On 19 May 2010, Parliamentary Committee for State Supervision analysed the Chief Labour Inspector’s information about implementation by NLI of the “National strategy for inspecting provisions on driving time and stopover time, obligatory breaks and rest periods of drivers in 2009 and 2010”.

“Effective, efficient and friendly – such an image of the National Labour Inspectorate is created every day by the work of all its employees” – said Chief Labour Inspector Tadeusz Jan Zając while presenting a report on the labour inspectorate’s activity in 2009 to the Labour Protection Council on 18 May 2010.

“Preventing illegal employment of foreigners in Poland” was the subject of a conference held at Warsaw University on 11 May 2010. It was organized by National Labour Inspectorate, Social Policy Institute of Warsaw University and Embassy of France. Its objective was to initiate a public debate about the increasingly frequent phenomenon of exploitation by employers of illegally employed foreigners. It is a new social problem, which has recently become visible in our country.

The twentieth edition of International Fair of Labour Protection, Fire-Fighting and Rescue Equipment SAWO was held in Poznań between 26 and 29 April 2010. It was attended by over 200 exhibitors from 20 countries of Europe and Asia.

8 and 9 April 2010, NLI’s Training Centre in Wrocław: a conference on the role of labour inspection in fighting forced labour, organized by the National Labour Inspectorate in cooperation with the Italian Department of Equal Opportunities and International Labour Organization.

Effects of the 1st stage of a long-term governmental programme „Improvement of safety and working conditions” were presented to the Labour Protection Council on 16 March 2010. Chief Labour Inspector Tadeusz Jan Zając and his Deputy dr Marian Liwo took part in the Council’s session.

At its session on 3 March 2010, Committee for State Supervision of Polish Parliament accepted the Prime Minister’s reply to a desideratum on implementation by the government of the National Labour Inspectorate’s proposals concerning indispensable amendments of legislation. MPs asked for information about which of the NLI’s motions of the type lex ferenda of the last three years are already implemented by the government and which will be taken into account in legislative initiatives in the future.

Work safety in construction was the most important topic discussed during the Labour Protection Council’s session held at the seat of Parliament on 16 February 2010. Experiences gained from the National Labour Inspectorate’s inspection and supervisory activities in that sector of economy were presented by Deputy Chief Labour Inspector dr Marian Liwo.

Members of Parliament from the Committee for State Supervision met at the seat of Parliament on 17 February 2010 and issued a positive opinion on the President’s proposal to amend the act on the freedom of economic activity in the part which refers to eliminating restrictions on the National Labour Inspectorate’s inspection activity. Adoption of the proposed amendments by Parliament would allow the NLI to enforce law observance in labour relations more effectively.

On 16 February 2010, a ceremony on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the social labour inspection was held under the patronage of the Speaker of Parliament Bronisław Komorowski at the Column Hall of the Polish Parliament. It was organized jointly by the Labour Protection Council and the largest trade union associations. The gala was attended by more than 300 social labour inspectors, representatives of Parliament, ministries, central authorities, trade unions and employers’ organizations.

At its session held at the seat of Parliament on 6 January 2010, the Committee for State Supervision of Polish Parliament became acquainted with the National Labour Inspectorate’s activity programme for 2010 and the long-term programme for years 2010-2012. Plans of the inspectorate were presented by the Chief Labour Inspector Tadeusz Jan Zając, accompanied by Deputy Inspectors – dr Marian Liwo and Anna Tomczyk.
